Does such music have a mental effect for you when you listen to it?
Daniel Lopatin: It does but it’s not very relaxing. It often stresses me out in the sense that I think about how strange it is that an artist would feel that relinquishing their role as composer and letting music just freely float and just be would ever be a good thing. There’s a superficial dissolution of the ego in both new age music and western mysticism that I find amusing. It’s also very creepy in a sexual sense. Deuter, Andreas Vollenweider and even 80s Vangelis to a certain extent make perverted sounding new age music. They introduce this smooth jazz sexiness that is like some weird form of headphone molestation. It’s uncomfortable.
Ahahahahaha
This explains something key.
